THE EMS PRAYER
As I perform my duty
Whatever be the call
Help to guide and keep me safe
From dangers big and small

I want to serve and do my best
No matter what the scene
I pledge to keep my skills refined
My judgement quick and keen

This calling to give of myself
Most do not understand
But I stand ready all the time
To help my fellow man

To have the chance to help a child
Restore their laugh with glee
A word of thanks I might not hear
But knowing is enough for me

The praise of men is fine for some
But I feel truly blessed
That you, oh Lord, have chosen me
To serve in
EMS
On May 19, 2004 the New York State Emergency Medical Services Memorial was officially dedicated. The EMS
community, just like all other emergency service communities, has lost many in the line of duty and we are
honored to have this memorial. The ceremony was attended by many dignitaries including the head of the NYS
Department of Health's EMS board, the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the State of New York, the
Senate Majority Leader of the New York State Senate, and we were most honored to have the Governor of the
State of New York, Governor Pataki. Again, we in the EMS community thank not only the state government but the
citizens of this great state for your support, thoughts, and prayers.
One of the most impressive displays of
community service was this group of high
school students who through a class at their
high schools have dedicated themselves to
helping others by becoming Certified First
Responders, and in their senior year,
Emergency Medical Technicians. Ladies and
Gentlemen, this is the spirit that we are
memorializing and they are the future. The
future looks very bright for New York
New York State is blessed to have the
leaders we do. Throughout arguably the
toughest time in American history
Governor Pataki has given us his
leadership and we are grateful. Even
though Governor Pataki is a very busy
man, he graciously agreed to a picture
with us. Here you see not only Chester
Ambulance but also Goshen and
Warwick Ambulance corps.
In the same spirit of teamwork and
unity; here are Chester, Goshen, and
Warwick Ambulance Corps in front of
the brand new EMS memorial.
The New York State Emergency Medical Services Memorial remembers the 25 members of EMS who hav given
their lives in service to the community (nine of whom died on September 11, 2001). The design is known as the
"Tree of Life" with the leaves being the EMS symbol, the "Star of Life". Twenty-five "stars of life" have the name of
a fallen EMS worker engraved in them. This was a somber ceremony that gave due respect to our brothers and
sisters in
EMS.
